Create a lasting ripple of change in our region

Ka mua, ka muri - Walking backwards into the future

"Ka mua, ka muri" is a Māori proverb that can be translated to "walking backwards into the future" or "to walk into the future with your eyes fixed on
the past." It signifies the interconnectedness of past, present, and future actions, suggesting that our actions have consequences that ripple forward in time.

The WBOP Women’s Fund is where generosity meets impact, and women empower women to create a lasting ripple of change in our region.

More than just a giving circle, we are a community of compassionate people dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of women and whānau in the Western Bay of Plenty.

As a member of the Western Bay of Plenty Women’s Fund, you join forces with like-minded individuals, working together to unlock opportunities and empower women to reach their full potential. Our mission goes beyond financial contributions; it’s about lifting each other up, challenging gender roles, and leading with purpose.

How does it work?

Become a member

There is a suggested donation of $50/month but it is only a suggested amount because we don’t want any barriers to participation. Everyone who donates to the Women’s Fund becomes a member of the fund, no matter how much you donate. Members are invited to exclusive events and get to help us decide which projects to fund and how best to make a difference.

Impact Current and Future Generations

50% of your donation will be paid annually to chosen charity recipients, for immediate impact. The remaining 50% of your donation will be invested into an endowment fund, with a portion of the income generated granted back into the region each year. This will create a perpetual, self-sustaining fund that will provide long-term security for future generations in the Western Bay of Plenty.

Funding

Members of the fund will be able to nominate recipient charities. Our voluntary Steering Committee will review nominations and decide upon a shortlist. Members will then be able to vote to decide on the final recipient/s at an Annual Members’ Meeting in May.

Meet the Steering Committee
