The Tauranga Community Foodbank Trust is a local charity that supports individuals and families in need through the provision of food parcels. They also collaborate with their clients and other social service organisations to ensure appropriate “wrap-around” support is provided to individuals and families in need of wider assistance.

Tauranga Community Foodbank receives funding from Acorn donors who decided to leave their funds unrestricted, meaning Acorn’s Distributions Committee evaluates applications and selects recipients.

Acorn’s largest contribution to Tauranga Community Foodbank since the first donation in 2009 comes from the Stewart Trust Fund. The purpose of the Stewart Trust’s fund is to support the relief of poverty including essential items such as food, housing, heating, clothing, and doctors’ visits.

In total, the Tauranga Community Foodbank has received almost $200,000 overall from various Acorn Foundation donors including the Acorn Vital Impact Fund and various Giving Circles.

“The generous and consistent financial support from Acorn Foundation donors, Vital Impact Fund and Giving Circles is priceless. It has assisted us in purchasing great healthy staple foods such as eggs, spreads, meat, fresh fruit and vegetables, cereal, pasta, etc. This food is for people in our community who would otherwise go hungry. We have received total funding of more than $198,000 during our relationship with Acorn. The Tauranga Community Foodbank Trust successfully make a huge difference in the lives of many people in need. These parcels send kids to school with breakfast and lunch and provide evening meals for families feeling the pressure of rising rents and stretched incomes.
