Ngā Kākano Foundation provides a range of health and social services to Whānau in the Te Puke community. Their goal is to break down the barriers to accessing healthcare for everyone in our community. Ngā Kākano Foundation works directly with all whānau in their service delivery area using kaupapa Māori principles to equip and empower them to cope with any health issues that may arise within the home. A GP clinic and multiple free community services are provided to cover all aspects of health and well-being.
As part of their E Tu Rangatahi Program, graffiti art was a huge part of their curriculum as well as music, dance, film, photography, and cultural activities. Two things rangatahi excels in are art and music, spaces where rangatahi express themselves and a platform where growth takes place under the guidance of professional artists.
The Acorn Foundation has funded the painting of a mural to give rangatahi in Te Puke a creative outlet to channel their energy and give them ownership of part of their community. It is a community collaboration with Alternative Education and Ngā Kākano Foundation and any other rangatahi who wish to take part in the project.
