The Katikati Innovative Horticulture Trust was set up in 2019 to advance horticultural education for young people and the wider community, developing and maintaining assets and facilities to be used to improve personal, social, and educational outcomes. Specifically, they aim to:
 

• Improve the employability of local young people.
• Support the skilled labour needs of the horticulture industry in the Bay of Plenty region.
• Connect young people with genuine pathways into horticultural careers and further training throughout the horticulture industry and New Zealand.
• Connect directly with the local horticulture industry. 
• Raise the profile of horticulture as a career option.
   

The Trust has established a collaborative project that brings together horticultural education, skills and training opportunities offering pathways into horticulture under one umbrella, based at Katikati College. Other providers are joining with the College to offer horticultural qualifications at NZ Certificate and Diploma level.
